John Patrick Nesbitt was born on April 2, 1959. He died on April 6, 2017. He was raised in the Bronx, the only son of Marion and Joseph Nesbitt. He attended St. Raymond’s Grammar School and High School and graduated from St. John’s University in 1982 with a B.S. degree in Sports Administration and Computer Science. He was a proud member of Tau Kappa Epsilon and stayed in touch with his fraternity brothers through the years.

During college he began working in the mailroom at Madison Square Garden and continued his career there for the next 25 years, rising to the position of Ticket Operations Supervisor.

He met his wife, Denise Fahey, also a St. John’s alumnus during Chris Mullin’s last home basketball game in February 1985. They married in October 1989 and moved to Floral Park in 1990 where they raised their son Christian, now a freshman at King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

In 2006, he joined the Ticket Operations Department at Carnegie Hall. He was a proud member of Local 751 and was a Trustee on the Executive Council of I.A.T.S.E. Local 751 for many years, negotiating contracts on behalf of his fellow union members during his tenure at Madison Square Garden as well as during his employment at Carnegie Hall.

He was an active member of the Holy Cross High School Father’s Club as well as a member of the Floral Park Knights of Columbus. John was an incredible cook and loved to prepare meals for his family and friends, even taking a cooking course with Jacques Pepin at the French Culinary Institute in New York City. He loved music, attending numerous concerts with his wife and friends through the years and enjoyed jamming on the guitar with his son whenever he had the chance.

Hi biggest passion was sports and no team more important to him than his beloved, and sometimes frustrating, “ New York Mets”. He was certain that this would be their year to win the World Series.

He was so proud of having recently become a “great” uncle to Thomas Manson, born on March 4, 2017. His ready smile, optimistic outlook and genuine kindness made him a friend to so many. He will be missed beyond words.

He leaves behind his wife Denise, son Christian, sister-in-law Helen Breen, brother-in-law Bob Fahey and his wife Maryellen, niece Danielle Manson, her husband Ian and their son Thomas as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles.
