Robert Louis Chabert, age 85, died at his home in Floral Park, New York, on July 27, 2017.  He passed, embraced by the love of many friends and generations of family.

He was born August 31, 1931, in Queens (NY), grew up in Floral Park (NY), and attended and graduated from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. Bob worked in the employee benefits industry, including a long tenure with The Travelers, where he managed that company’s pavilion at The New York World’s Fair (1964-65).

Known as “Robert” to his mother, “Bob” to his friends, “Mike” to his wife, and “GPa” to his adoring grandchildren, he was passionate about family, flying, reading, sailing, and his alma mater, St. Lawrence University.  He was proud to have “soloed,” owned a sail boat for many years, enjoyed joining friends on boating excursions, donated generously to St. Lawrence University, and read so thoroughly that the Floral Park Public Library’s nonfiction collection includes his secretly noted check marks, to keep him from re-reading the same books. He proudly argued that his greatest legacy and joy was his family; his wife, daughters, and grandchildren.

Bob was predeceased by his mother, Grace Chabert; father, Emile Chabert; and sister, Evelyn Meisner.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Clarke Chabert; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sally Chabert and Jess Brallier, and Judy Aviles and Felix Aviles; four grandchildren, Melissa Pinto, Max Brallier, Adam Aviles, and Ruby Brallier; four great grandchildren; and niece Pamela Dowd.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, August 3rd,  2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m,  at Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, 29 Atlantic Avenue, Floral Park, NY 11001.  www.thomasfdaltonfuneralhomes.com
