Carlo C. Soranno

July 17, 1938 ~ April 11, 2024 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Tribute

Carlo Carmine Soranno, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on April 11, 2024 at the age of 85. Born on July 17, 1938, in Harlem, New York City, Carlo was a dedicated public servant and a true embodiment of joy and laughter.

Lieutenant Carlo Soranno dedicated 40 years of his life to serving with the New York City Fire Department. He fearlessly fought fires in the South Bronx in the '70s with “Da Bums on Da Hill” Engine 83, Ladder 29 and later served as Lieutenant of the Field Communications team at FDNY Firehouse Engine 207, Ladder 110, Battalion 31. Lieutenant Soranno played a crucial role in ensuring seamless communication and coordination during emergency situations across the five boroughs. After his retirement in 2000, Carlo's commitment to his fellow firefighters remained strong, as he volunteered to drive the Chaplain to the families of the firemen lost on 9/11, providing comfort and support during their time of grief.

Known for his infectious sense of humor, Carlo was the life of every party. His catchphrases, such as "If it's free, it's for me!" and "No sugar, I'm sweet enough," will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him. He loved to entertain by spontaneously singing the riffs of his favorite songs, bringing smiles to everyone's faces.

In his leisure time, Carlo enjoyed golfing with his buddies well into his seventies and playing basketball with his children and grandchildren. He also proudly served in the United States Army during the 1950s, stationed in South Korea.

Carlo is survived by his loving wife, Carol; daughter, Lisa; sons, Carlo (Juanita) and David; grandchildren, Richard (Bridgette), Cruz (Racheal), Genevieve, Luke, John, and Lilly; great-grandchild, Cameron; brother, Victor; and sister, Antoinette.

A memorial service will be held at Dalton Funeral Home in Floral Park, NY, on Sunday, April 21st, from 4 pm to 8 pm. A chapel service and burial will follow at Mount Saint Mary Cemetery in Flushing on Monday, April 22, at 11 am. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home.
