Dolores Cunningham

March 3, 1933 ~ April 14, 2024 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Tribute

Dolores Jean Cunningham (nee Reidy) was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Eugene and Rose Reidy, on March 3, 1933.  She departed us on April 14, 2024, peacefully and at home while surrounded by her loving family.  She was a devoted wife for 60 wonderful years to the love of her life, the late George Cunningham. Their love for each other was truly an inspiration for everyone who knew them. She was a loving mother to her four children, daughter Jean Cunningham (James Gallagher), son George (deceased), daughter Theresa Faughnan (Gregory), son Michael (Janice).  Dolores was a truly devoted grandmother to Daniel, Sean, Brian, Baby Katie (deceased), Kevin, and James.  She was also a wonderful aunt to many treasured nieces and nephews.

Dolores was one of four children and was raised on East 51st Street in Brooklyn.  She was predeceased by her beloved siblings Marie Cutter, Betsy Lynch and Eugene Reidy.  She (and many other family members) attended PS 203, and at countless occasions throughout the years she would be heard proudly singing the school song, Dear Old 203. She graduated from St Edmund’s High School.

Dolores and George were Married in Mary Queen of Heaven Church and moved to their first apartment in Gerritsen Beach where they started their family. They raised their family in Brooklyn, buying their first home on East 31st Street in St Jerome’s parish in Flatbush, and then buying a home in their childhood neighborhood of Flatlands, on East 51st in Street in Mary Queen of Heaven parish.  In retirement, they moved to East Meadow, so they could be close to their children and grandchildren.  Together they enjoyed travelling to their little piece of paradise in Marco Island, Florida.

Dolores loved having her children and grandchildren around her. She always ready to give and receive a hug. Her special pudding cupcakes were well known in her children’s elementary school and would sell out in minutes at the school bake sales, and her birthday cakes with pudding icing were a very special treat.

Dolores was a loving wife, daughter, sister and sister-in-law, a devoted mother, grandmother and aunt.  She maintained a deep devotion to her Catholic faith throughout her life.  She has been called ‘one of a kind’, ‘one in a million’, she was kind, caring and optimistic and was well loved.  She was fondly known as Mrs. C to many who knew her and all who knew her loved her generous and kind heart.
