Maria Nunzia Damiano

Maria Nunzia Damiano, 84, of Hicksville, NY, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024. 

She was born on May 7, 1939 in Frigento, Avellino, Italy, and was the daughter of Antonio Genua and Angelina Telese. 

Maria immigrated to the United States in 1968, resided in Erie, PA and spent 14 years pursuing her passion of feeding and taking care of others as a Food and Nutrition employee at St. Vincent's Hospital, all while raising her  two children.  After retiring, she relocated to Long Island to be with her children and grandchildren in 2001.  Maria was devout, prayerful, and strong in her Christian faith.  She loved her family, gardening, nature, animals, Italian music, and most of all spending time with and cooking delicious meals for her children and grandchildren.  

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her spouse, Pietro Damiano.  

She is survived by her children; Angelina (Damiano) Salerno and her husband, Alex Salerno, Peter Damiano and his wife, Charis (Martyn) Damiano; grandchildren, Sabrina Salerno, Gianluca Damiano, Sofia Salerno, Francesco Damiano and Marcello Damiano; siblings, Olga Genua, Gennaro Genua, Antonietta (Genua) Telese, Rocco Genua, and Giuseppe Genua, and is survived numerous nieces and nephews.  

Friends and family are invited to attend the wake service at Thomas Dalton Funeral Home, 47 Jerusalem Avenue, Hicksville, NY on Tuesday March 26th from 5pm - 8pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2534 Cedar Swamp Road, Brookville, NY on Wednesday, March 27th at 11:30 a.m. followed by burial at Queen of Peace Cemetery, 321 Jericho Turnpike, Old Westbury, NY. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.
