On Sunday, June 6th, 2021, Bipin Chandubhai Patel of Jamaica, New York, loving husband, respected father of four, and elder father or "Motapapa" to three, passed away peacefully at the age of 77, surrounded by the ones he loved.
Bipin was born on December 25th, 1943, in Kampala, Uganda. He was affectionately called "Lehri Lalo" by his friends and "Bips" by his children and immediate family. He attended Old Kampala School in Uganda and later attended ITI college in Surat, India. Soon after, he returned to Uganda and married his childhood sweetheart, Asmita.
In 1969, Bipin and Asmita began their journey to the United States, establishing their foundation in New York City. Unselfishly, he eased the burden of immigration for many family members by sponsoring their move to the US. That was Bipin, always looking to help and offer his resources to others, especially to overcome hardships he had already experienced himself. In addition, if anyone ever had a layover at either LGA or JFK airport, Bipin would make it a point to see them and bring snacks. And if anyone was visiting NYC, he would make it his mission to be their personal tour guide.
Bipin's greatest love in life was his family and friends; he made sure to never let anyone down. His priority was to uplift and help his family. He was known to have a good time in the company of his friends and family. Bipin was an avid photographer who loved to travel and drive along I-95. He also enjoyed watching boxing matches.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Sushilaben, Kumudben, and Induben.
Bipin also served as an uncle and respected father figure to Jayendra, Chandresh, Hinesh, Rohit, Jyoti, and Shailesh.
His beautiful life will be forever cherished in the lives of his wife Asmita, brothers Jagdish (Hasumati) and Bhasker (Chetna), children: Ketan (Krupa), Sapna (Indy), Trishul (Shefali), Anant (Veronica), Anish (Anu), Unnati (Jacob), Umangi (Parag), and his grandchildren: Dhruv, Serena, Neil, Alina, Meela, Ashton, Jaiden, Aiden, Ava, and Arin.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 12th, 2021, at Thomas Dalton's funeral home at 1 pm. On behalf of the family, we request that all guests kindly wear masks while attending the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ekal Vidyalaya at ekal.org. Ekal Vidyala is a non-profit organization that brings basic education to every child across rural India, a cause dear to Bipin's heart.
