Catherine T. O'Meara

Catherine Theresa O’Meara (nee Smyth)

Beloved wife of Walter, loving mother of William (spouse, Yu Xiao) and Bridget (spouse, David Reich) and doting grandmother (“nai-nai”) of Colin. She passed away on October 3rd, at age 74, after a long battle with breast and esophageal cancer.

Raised in the Inwood section of Manhattan, she was a graduate of St. Catharine’s Academy, Katharine Gibbs School and Queens College. After Gibbs, she worked as an executive secretary at the Aer Lingus  (Irish Airlines) NYC office for 20 years.

A Floral Park resident since 1980, she was involved in various PTA groups while her children attended the local schools. More recently as part of the Knitting Club, provided comfort blankets to hospitalized members of the community.

Catherine loved to travel and was an avid skier, despite an accident in Switzerland which resulted in a serious injury, a night lost in the Alps and an early morning  rescue.                                                                       

She is survived by her husband, children and grandson as well as her sister, Eileen Sussmann, and Eileen’s daughters, Colleen and Regina.
