Dennis Ryan

Dennis J. Ryan passed away on June 11 at the age of 74.  Born in Bellerose, Queens, Dennis graduated from Floral Park Memorial High School and would soon follow in his father’s footsteps to become a NYC police officer.  Due to a medical condition, he unfortunately had to leave the force.  He would then go on to start and own A&R Contracting, a home improvement company, for over four decades.  It was in his early years in Floral Park where Dennis would meet his lifelong friends who would become part of his and his children’s family.  Together they would celebrate the milestones of marriages, births, birthdays, weddings, grandchildren, and the passing of many loved ones.  In his teens and twenties, Dennis was a serious boxer.  He also loved to fish which would become a lifelong hobby that saw him organize and run a fishing club called the Floral Park Tight Liners.  Dennis also loved to cook!  Cooking for family and friends was a passion and he was not shy about sending food back at restaurants that didn’t meet his expectations!  For many years he cooked the roast beef dinners for Boy Scout Troop 93 and the corned beef feast for Arps Bar on his favorite holiday, St. Patrick’s Day.  Dressing every year in full St Pat’s regalia, Dennis enthusiastically celebrated the day surrounded by family and friends.

Dennis is preceded in death by his father Joseph Ryan and his mother Evelyn Ryan (nee. Rose) as well as many uncles and aunts.  He is survived by his children Marc and Rebecca as well as Marc’s wife Kelly and their children Amberly, Brayden, and Quinn.  He is also survived by his many close friends and cousins who he loved dearly. 

The family will receive visitors at T. F. Dalton Funeral Home in Floral Park on Tuesday June 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 and on Wednesday June 15 from 11 – 1.  Burial will be a later date in one of his favorite places, upstate at “Uncle Billy and Aunt Chickie’s” with his close friend and dear Uncle Billy.
