Dominic (Mickey) Parascandolo of Oakland Gardens, New York , passed away peacefully on January 7, 2022. Dominic was born March 13, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York, to Andrew and Josephine (Maimone) Parascandolo. Dominic is survived by his wife, Antoinette (Barone), and seven children: Josephine (David) Gailing, Maria (Robert) Sutton, Andrew (Anat) Parascandolo, Christina (Mark) McDonnell, Anthony Paras, Geraldine (Anthony) DiBari, and Elizabeth Zouvelos. He is also survived by his sister Cecelia Brookfield. He leaves behind eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A veteran, he served in Germany as part of the occupation forces during the Korean War as U.S . Army Sergeant in the 109th Regiment, 28th Division from 1950 to 1952.
After working for many years at radio station WADO as an engineer, he joined the New York Police Department at One Police Plaza in the Communications Department.
Dominic was devoted to God, his family, and country. Dominic’s love of music and the arts permeated his life, leading to a newfound love of painting after age 70. In 2008, Dominic had his paintings exhibited at St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn and the National Art League of Douglaston, New York. His artwork now proudly hangs in the homes of his family.
Dominic was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1772 in his beloved church of American Martyrs. His faith gave him great comfort throughout his life and especially in his final years.
