Tribute

Edmund (Ed) J Laskowski

March 22, 1933 - April 09, 2018

Edmund (Ed) Joseph Laskowski, age 85 of Plano, Texas, formerly from Wantagh, New York went peacefully to the Lord on April 9, 2018 after a long battle with COPD.

Ed was born on March 22, 1933 in Greenpoint (Brooklyn), New York to Edmund and Victoria (Bartold) Laskowski. He was the ninth of ten children. At the age of 17, with his father’s permission, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country from June 1950 through January 1954 during the Korean War/Conflict.

In 1959, Ed married Janice Dougherty and a year later had a son, Edmund Michael. During that time, as a husband and Dad, he worked different jobs while going to school at New York University. He completed his bachelor’s degree within two years and went to work at JCPenney from where he would retire 32 years later. The family moved to Wantagh, Long Island, buying their first house in 1966. Ed and Janice welcomed their daughter, Eileen Elizabeth in 1970. A short time later in July 1973, Janice passed away unexpectedly.

After a few years of being a single Dad, he was blessed to meet a beautiful Polish woman, named Edith Tober. They married in 1977 and enjoyed 41 years together. Ed moved with his family to Plano, Texas in 1988 with the relocation of JCPenney operations. Ed and Edith loved life in Texas and spent his retirement years there.

In 1983 the Laskowski family grew when Edmund Michael married Debra Chamberlin. They gave Ed and Edith 4 grandchildren: Edmund Alan (1984), Megan Janice (1986), Thomas Norman (1996) and Michael Alexander (1999). Eileen Elizabeth married Kenneth Little in 2001 giving Ed and Edith 2 more grandchildren: Jillian Mira (2003) and Ryan Louis (2007). The family grew again in 2012 when Edmund Alan married Bethany Sundin and blessed Ed and Edith with 2 great‐granddaughters: Brooklyn Elizabeth (2013) and Evangeline Hope (2017).

Ed loved traveling with Edith, especially anywhere they could find a casino. He loved games; cards, washers or any game in which he could break out his jar of quarters. He was an avid Giants fan. He loved to watch all activities in which his six grandchildren participated: dramatic performances, recitals and sports games. When Ed couldn’t attend himself, he would call to hear all the details. More than anything he loved face‐timing & singing with his greatgranddaughters, Brooklyn & Evangeline.

He was loved and will be missed by so many of his friends and other surviving family; siblings Sophia Farrar and her husband Joseph, Richard Laskowski and his wife Carol.  He was preceded in death by his parents and the birth mother of his children Janice Laskowski, siblings; Stella Mangan, Victoria Wood, Irene O'Neal, Wanda Unger, Frances Gavin, Jane Stricko and Camille Laskowski.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Friday, April 27, 2018, 9:45 AM at Our Lady Of The Snows Catholic Church, 258-15 80th Avenue, North Floral Park, Queens, New York 11004. Ed will be laid to rest at Long Island National Cemetery, Long Island, New York.

If desired, contributions may be made in Ed's name to St Jude Children's Hospital, www.stjude.org/memorial, 800-873-6983
