Florence Johnson

JOHNSON-Florence, 90 of Hicksville passed away at home on June 13, 2020. She was born on Long Island on September 17, 1929 daughter of the late Anna Mingalone Divone and Daniel Divone. She was predeceased by her longtime partner, Theodore Thowless and brother George Divone. She grew up on Herman Blvd. in Franklin Square and moved to Hicksville in 1956. 

Following graduation from Sewanhaka High School, she worked as a secretary in NYC, then left once she married and began having children. She was a loving and devoted Mother who taught her children they could do anything they put their minds to. Her blessings were beyond measure. She returned to work later only to help fund her children’s college education. She worked at Data Device Corporation in Hicksville and Bohemia until retiring in 1988.

She is survived by her three children; Kathleen Ferguson and her husband Robert of Paxton, MA, Lorraine Miracolo-Shiff, and her husband Jeff of Merrick NY and Kris Reed and her husband Mark of Hicksville NY. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Marissa Miracolo, Brooklyn NY, Kyla Ferguson, Whatley MA, Melanie Miracolo, Brooklyn NY, Zachary Ferguson and his wife Kaitlin, Paxton MA, and Austin Reed, Hicksville, NY. She was very excited to know that Zachary and Kaitlin are expecting a child and she would become a Great Grandmother this year. Over the past 4 years Florence developed a deep and caring relationship with her caregiver Marina Hayrapetyan to whom the family is incredibly thankful for the care and love she provided in these last years. 

A private visitation will be held due to the Covid-19. We invite anyone who would like to attend a Mass of Celebration for Florence on Monday, June 22, at Holy Family Church at 10 AM. The address is 5 Fordham Avenue, Hicksville, NY. Burial at Holy Rood Cemetery. Immediate family only due to Covid-19.

Due to the pandemic, entrance to the funeral home and church will require wearing a mask and social distancing restrictions.
