Gary J. Gunning passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, June 5, 2021 after a
courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Camille, his mom Jean, sister Jean
Llewellyn (Tom), brother Patrick (Joanna), sister Eileen Costello (Frank) and in-laws Debra and Frederick
Powell. Beloved Uncle who gave of himself and his time to his nieces and nephews: John (Christine),
Patrick (Jill), Kevin, Dan, Tara, Joseph, Caroline and Sean. Gary loved being ‘Gruncle’ (Grand Uncle) to
Nicholas and Juliet. He was predeceased in 2020 by his father Joseph.
A retired CPA, Gary attended St Anne’s School (’70), Chaminade (’74), Fairfield University (’78) and
Adelphi University (’80). He worked at the Federal Reserve Bank, Chase Manhattan Bank, Prudential
Securities and the NY Racing Association. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Stewart Manor Fire
Department for 17 years. He was a devoted Mets, Jets and Islanders fan.
The family will be forever grateful to Dr. N. Seetharamu and her staff at Northwell Health Center for
Advanced Medicine.

He will be deeply missed as we all ask ourselves: How can one person leave so many people feeling like
they’ve lost their best friend?
