James (Jimmy) Sullivan was born 4/17/1959 in Maspeth, NY and passed away peacefully 11/15/23 at the age of 64 with his wife at his beside due to complications of pancreatic cancer. He moved to Glen Oaks Village in 1997. He married the love of his life Miguelina in 2001. Jimmy was a member of the police force and was dedicated to keeping the community safe, advocating for social justice and was highly respected by his colleagues while rising to the ranks of sergeant. After retiring from the police force he continued to act as a mentor for rookie cops and to serve in the community of Glen Oaks Village. He Loved to take walks, stopping to talk with neighbors while spreading genuine concern, kindness, and respect. When anyone needed help Jimmy was there. His generosity showed no boundaries. Jimmy was a pillar of the community and was instrumental in designing the Memorial for Veterans located in Glen Oaks. Jimmy enjoyed attending rock concerts with his wife at Jones Beach and summertime steak barbecues. He remained interested in current events and was an avid NY Giants fan. Jimmy took much pride in keeping Glen Oaks Village beautiful and with his wife spent many hours cultivating a bountiful, vibrant garden, exploding with colorful flowers vegetables, trees, stone pathways, butterflies and birds. The garden was a peaceful oasis for Jimmy that nourished his soul. He shared the fruits of his labor including tomatoes, basil, cucumbers, lettuce, and arugula with friends and neighbors. Jimmy gave water to the birds every day and when his illness prevented him from being out in the garden they sensed his absence and flew around looking for him. The birds are now reunited with Jimmy and together they soar the skies spreading their wings singing songs of joy.
Jimmy is survived by his loving, dedicated wife Miguelina, a brother, and two sisters. Jimmy was Married to Miguelina for 22 Years without ever being away from her and passed away on her birthday.
He will be deeply missed by many.
