John P McCarthy

John P. (Jack) McCarthy, 79, of East Meadow, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 8, in the loving arms of his cherished wife of 52 years, Sarah (Sally) McCarthy. The youngest son of Irish immigrants, Jack was born and raised on Manhattan's Upper East side. A 25-year veteran of the New York City Police Department and lifetime member of the Emerald Society, Jack was a lover of Irish music, good whiskey, the Yankees, and fishing (a passion he passed on to his children and grandchildren). Known for his off-color jokes and unparalleled generosity, Jack was a skilled craftsman who was meticulous in his work. He took great pride in his perfectly manicured lawn and relished his role as mayor of Arlene Drive, always available to lend a hand or unsolicited opinion while holding court on his front porch. In addition to his beloved wife, Jack is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Katie McCarthy; his daughter and son-in-law Tara and Frank Pometti; his four adoring grandchildren, Jack, Luke, Nora, and Conan; and his two grand-dogs, Leia and Polly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 15 at 9:45AM at Holy Family R.C. Church, 17 Fordham Avenue, Hicksville, NY 11801. Interment will follow at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury, NY. 

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 14, from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home at 2786 Hempstead Turnpike, Levittown, NY 11756.
