Matthew Dana Palmer

Matthew Dana Palmer, age 18 of Floral Park passed away on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the Capital Regional Medical Center in NJ.  Matthew was born June 27, 2001 in New York City.

Matthew will be missed every day by his father Terrance (Terry) Palmer, mother Margaret (Peggy) Palmer (nee O’Boyle), sisters Claire and Bridget and an army of loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Matthew was a freshman at The College of New Jersey where he was studying Mechanical engineering. In addition to his academic life Matt was a member of Sigma Pi fraternity where he was embraced like a brother by all.

Matt had many interests in life including; Boy Scouts, camping, fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, skiing, cars and anything to do with the outdoors.  Matt loved working with his uncle and cousins in their family owned business every chance he could.  He was notably awarded the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America, that of Eagle Scout on December 17, 2019.  He was also a participant in the very first Lego Robotic team in Floral Park taking home international recognition for their teams work.  He enjoyed playing Volleyball at Floral Park Memorial and playing basketball with the Floral Park Indians.

Nothing was more important to Matt than his family and friends.  He enjoyed every family holiday and gathering and was passionate about cooking on the grill for the masses whatever the occasion.  He loved being with his friends and spending time in the great outdoors.

Although Matt’s life was shorter than many his contribution to his community, school and those around him was momentous.  We want to celebrate Matthew’s life in everyway possible so that his life and our memories will remind all of his kindness, compassion and easy effortless smile.
