Patricia Clarke Chabert, age 88, died at her home in Floral Park, New York, on May 8, 2020. She was much loved by friends, neighbors, colleagues, and generations of family.
She was born on March 21, 1932, in Albany (NY), grew up in Auburn (NY), and attended St. Lawrence University (Class of 1954) in Canton (NY). She was a member of the Beta Chapter, Tri-Delta Sorority. She and her late husband, Robert L. Chabert, lived and raised their family in Floral Park (NY). She was active in her community and her daughters’ schools when they were young. She later enjoyed a 30-year career in investments and retired from the Alpert Group as a registered securities broker and Assistant Vice President at the age of 81. She remained life-long friends with Rob Alpert and her beloved colleagues.
Known as “Pat” to her friends and colleagues and as “Gma” to her adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was a loving and engaged mother. She was extraordinarily proud of her family and was their greatest cheerleader. She was unfailingly gracious and kind, and treasured both new and enduring friendships. She kept in touch with far-flung friends and family on her iPad, and mastered the Sunday Times’ crossword, online. She looked forward to a monthly telephone cocktail hour with her college roommate. She belonged to two book clubs and always had a stack piled by her favorite chair. She had a wonderful sense of humor and laughed easily. She adored Roz Chast cartoons and delighted her grandchildren with her beer pong skills. No one wrote a lovelier handwritten note.
Pat was pre-deceased by her husband, Robert Chabert, her mother, Marjorie Clarke, her father, Irving Clarke, and her sister, Gloria Allen. She is survived by her beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Sally Chabert and Jess Brallier, and Judy Aviles and Felix Aviles; four grandchildren, Melissa Pinto, and her husband John, Max Brallier and his wife Alyse Diamond, Adam Aviles and his wife Dana, and Ruby Brallier; six great-grandchildren, Jack, Dylan, and Donovan Pinto, Landon and Hannah Aviles, and Lila Brallier.
Family and friends will gather on a date to be determined to celebrate Pat’s life and honor her memory.
Memorial donations can be made in Pat’s name to the St. Lawrence University Alumni Fund or the Friends of the Floral Park Library.
