Tribute

Mr. Rupert Kalicharansing of Queens Village, New York passed away on January 7th, 2022, at the age of 85. Rupert was born in British Guiana on June 18th, 1936. He is survived by his wife Deoki and son Ranji. From his first marriage sons Joseph, Paul and Patrick and daughter Desiree. He was the brother of Ganesh Rampersaud and the late Henry Sooknanan. Sister of late Bhagwattie Rampersaud and brother-in-law of Dalchand Bissoon of Canada. He leaves behind nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A lifelong educator. He started his teaching career as a pupil teacher in 1954. He worked his way up to becoming a head teacher in 1978. He served as head teacher at Bel-Air , Annandale and Lusignan Primary Schools. Always imparting his knowledge to countless young men and women.

In 1988 he immigrated to the USA. He went back to college to further his education and graduated from City College in 1995 with a master’s degree. He worked for the New York City Board of Education as a Teacher and later as an Education Evaluator.  He retired in 2008.

Always a man of great faith and thankfulness to God. He was a member of the first presbyterian church of Jamaica for over 20 years. He loved reading the newspaper and watching cricket and baseball.  

Famous for his quotes one of his favorites is “The good you do will live after you “. This is true of my dad Rupert.
