Tribute

Ann S. Aiello

August 22, 1928 – July 8, 2021

Ann S. Aiello passed away at her home on July 8, 2021.  She was born and raised in Queens and resided in Mineola since 1961. Her husband, Edward, predeceased her in January 2020.  They were married in 1953 and enjoyed more than 66 years of marriage.  Ann is survived by her three daughters and extended family; Mary Ann Aiello (Ray Lammens), Laura Aiello and Janet DiFalco (Mark DiFalco). She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren; Meredith Lammens Mahmood (Qamar), Philip Lammens (Kathy), Matthew Aiello-Lammens (Gina), Michael DiFalco (Lyuba), Keith DiFalco (Sara), Steven DiFalco (Cory) and Melissa DiFalco as well as 8 great-grandchildren; Emma, Matthew, Alex and Natalie Lammens, Cameron and Jacob Mahmood, and Olivia and Harrison Lammens.

Ann grew up in Woodside, NY and graduated from William Cullen Bryant High School.  In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Ann worked as a bookkeeper for several companies, retiring in 1981.  She was active in the Mother’s Club at St. Aidan’s and the Girl Scouts while her girls were in grade school.  When her daughters were in college, she took classes at Fordham University where her husband was a professor in the Department of Biology.

Ann loved the theatre and travel. Ann and Ed traveled extensively and when they were not traveling, they frequently attended the ballet, Broadway shows and dined in the city. In the summer, they relaxed with family, spending time at their daughter’s home on a lake in Columbia County.  She also enjoyed going to art museums (especially to view paintings of her favorite artist, Andrew Wyeth), dining out, and shopping.  Until her last weeks, Ann diligently read the newspaper daily and watched the news on public and cable television to stay on top of local and national events.  She always had a distinct opinion which she would share with acerbic wit. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and kept in close correspondence with genuine concern regarding her extended family and their lives.

Family and friends may remember Ann on Monday, July 19th from 3 to 7 pm at Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, 412 Willis Ave., Williston Park, NY 11596. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 20th at 10 am at the Church of Saint Aidan, 505 Willis Ave., Williston Park, NY 11596. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ann’s memory to St. Jude’s Children Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, Good Shephard Hospice in Farmingdale, New York or a charity of the donor’s choice.
