Christine (Chris) Benkert of Richmond Hill, NY, age 53, died Thursday, April 13, 2017 at her home in Westbury, NY.
Chris was born June 14, 1963 (Flag Day), in Brooklyn, NY but after living her young adult life in Richmond Hill, NY (Queens) she moved to Long Island and was a Westbury resident since 1995. You might know her from the 11 years she worked at “Abraham & Strauss” department store in Queens, or the 10 years she worked at “Sears” on Long Island as a Field Bookkeeper. When you talk to people about Chris, you will likely hear that she was: “kind (to both people and animals), generous, funny, vivacious, witty, had a beautiful singing voice, and above all loved her friends and family.
She is survived by her mother, Kathe Benkert (Westbury, NY); her brother Holger Benkert and his wife Chonita and son Mathias (Albuquerque, NM); her aunts Doris Benkert (Middle Village, NY), Greta Benkert (Westbury, NY), Monika Baker and her husband Stephen (Williston Park, NY) and their families, cousins Fred Benkert, Carol Amorosa and their families, Britta DellaCamera, and numerous extended family members.
She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Benkert.
While there will be no funeral services, the family will have a memorial service to celebrate Chris’ life on Thu, April 20th, 2017 at from 7pm – 9:30pm at the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home at 412 Willis Ave, Williston Park, NY 11596.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in memory of Chris may be made to the “North Shore Animal League” or a charity of your choice.
