Dolores Scauzillo

Dolores Scauzillo (June 30, 1932–May 24, 2020) was born in The Bronx, New York. She was a graduate of James Monroe High School, where she met her future husband, the late Joseph Scauzillo. May 24, the day of her death, would have been their 68th wedding anniversary.

For many years a paraprofessional in the Great Neck school district, she was known for her compassion and friendliness. Every child she encountered had the good fortune to see her beautiful smile and feel the warmth of her kindness.

Dolores moved to Long Island in 1961, and settled in New Hyde Park, where, for the next 56 years, she was an influential figure, volunteering for various PTAs, the Cub Scouts, the Girl Scouts and numerous other organizations. Dolores and her husband were very involved with the Knights of Columbus, Sons of Italy, North Lakeville Civic Association, the Great Neck schools and, especially, Notre Dame Church.

She is survived by four children: Joanne, Jessie, Joseph and Luci, and their spouses; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
