Edward L. Aiello
June 12, 1928 – January 24, 2020
Edward L. Aiello, loving husband of Ann, passed away at his home on January 24, 2020. He was a resident of Mineola since 1961. In addition to his wife who he married in 1953, he is survived by his three daughters, Mary Ann Aiello, Laura Aiello and Janet DiFalco, his sons-in-law Ray Lammens and Mark DiFalco, 7 grandchildren, Meredith Lammens Mahmood, Phillip Lammens, Matthew Aiello-Lammens, Michael DiFalco, Keith DiFalco, Steven DiFalco and Melissa DiFalco. He had 8 great-grandchildren Emma, Matthew, Alex and Natalie Lammens, Cameron and Jacob Mahmood, and Olivia and Harrison Lammens.
Ed grew up in Woodside, NY and graduated from Bishop Loughlin High School. He was active in the Boys Scouts and earned an Eagle Merit Badge. He served in the US Navy and was stationed in the South Pacific toward the end of World War II. Ed went on to graduate from St. Peter’s College and received his PhD in Biology from Columbia University. He had a distinguished career as a Professor of Biology at Fordham University.
Edward enjoyed playing the piano, theatre and travel. He loved skiing, hiking and camping. His love of nature has been instilled in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Family and friends may call on Monday, 1/27/20 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, 412 Willis Ave., Williston Park, NY 11596. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ed’s memory to The Nature Conservancy 250 Lawrence Hill Rd, Cold Spring Harbor, NY 11724 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
