Stephen G Haller

HALLER - Stephen G., 76, died surrounded by loved ones on May 19, 2023. Steve was born on December 29, 1946, the youngest of seven siblings. He met his beloved wife, Theresa (née Maxwell), at St. Matthias Grammar School in Ridgewood, Queens, and they married on November 20, 1971. Steve’s first job was in printing, and he spent the whole of his 47-year career in the industry. He opened Minuteman Press of Levittown in 1978, and successfully ran the business with his partner, Charlie Kick, for 35 years. Steve was a loving father to Stephen and Laurie, and welcomed their spouses, Chrissy West and John Hindley, into his family with his characteristic open arms. He adored Laurie and John’s children, Tess and Jack, took great joy in learning that Stevie and Chrissy would be welcoming a baby boy in the fall, and delighted in his big family of nieces and nephews, and their children. Steve was an active volunteer, deeply involved in the East Meadow and Levittown communities. In 1996 he was honored by Newsday as a Volunteer of the Year, and the Kiwanis Clubs and Chambers of Commerce in both towns have honored Steve’s service several times over the last four decades. Steve was an active parishioner at St. Raphael’s Parish, where he served on the Finance Committee, and together with Terri helped prepare couples for marriage through the Pre Cana and FOCUS programs. Steve served as president of his neighborhood civic association, coached his children’s baseball and basketball teams, and for many years he dressed as Santa Claus to bring holiday joy to children with special needs.

Steve’s booming voice, easy affection, and generous spirit will live forever in the hearts of his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his sister Marjorie Wood; his sisters-in-law June Haller and Diane Graf, and his sister- and brother-in-law, Catherine and Owen DeCoursey. Steve’s family will celebrate his life Thursday May 25, 3 pm - 7 pm at Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, 412 Willis Ave., Williston Park, NY 11596. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, 10:45 am, at St. Raphael R.C. Church, 600 Newbridge Rd, East Meadow, NY 11554. Interment to follow at Holy Rood, 111 Old Country Rd, Westbury, NY 11590. Donations in Steve’s memory may be made to Kamp Kiwanis or the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center.
